According to the organization which establishes 5G standards (3GPP), Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC, or SIM) is the only platform available to protect 5G network access. Similarly, UICC is evolving to address the new challenges introduced by 5G with the development of network communication technology.

Security features of EDCH 5G USIM cards ensure secure access to 5G networks. Through Subscription Concealed Identifier (SUCI) technology on the 5G USIM card, the end user’s digital identity can be protected, to improve the security of the mobile network and avoid illegal locating, tracing, or data collection through fake identities.
5G USIMs can also support the Steering of Roaming feature of 5G networks, enabling mobile operators to offer subscribers seamless roaming experiences across 5G networks.
