e-SIM

Embedded SIM (eSIM or eUICC) is the latest generation of SIM cards.
It is a reprogrammable chip attached to motherboard at the manufacturing stage inside the smartphone, tablet, and other connected objects, serves the same functionality as a removable SIM card. EUICC information is not only rewriteable but can also be updated remotely (OTA). Using these features, OEMs and end customers can switch service providers without having to replace their SIM cards, and can also manage multiple subscriptions with multiple mobile network operators remotely.

As compared with traditional SIM cards, the eUICC offers other attractive benefits.

The activation of an eSIM module is achieved via remote SIM provisioning (RSP), whereby an operator’s SIM profile is sent to a device via an active Internet connection, e.g. through a Wi-Fi network. EDCH offers a full end-to-end, GSMA-certified RSP service. Our portfolio includes a full line of eUICC platforms and operating systems, applications, development suites and testing tools, OTA server systems, packaging and fulfilment services, as well as engineering and consultation services in support of custom applications. In addition to RSP for consumer eSIM devices, we also support M2M devices.
